Extrusion die cooling

Nitrogen is an inert gas which in liquid form, at very low temperatures, can also release a large quantity of frigories. This peculiarity can be exploited in aluminium extrusion processes to significantly increase plant productivity. In fact, the heat developed during the extrusion of a billet is a function of the speed of extrusion; guaranteeing correct temperature control on the working surfaces of the dies, with temperature varying within a sdet range, prevents the formation of surface defects due to overheating.

Another advantage is that the surface quality of the extrusion is improved thanks to the inertising effect of the nitrogen.

The SOL group can supply its customers with liquid nitrogen distribution and usage processes and systems for cooling extrusion dies, minimising the problems due to gas leaks and guaranteeing constant flows of liquid.
